What I Learned This Week

This week was a slow week. I struggled with keeping going. I’ve been tired and not as creative as normal. I have been writing blog posts but I’ve found myself having difficulty sleeping for some reason and that has made me less productive.

I watched some interesting videos online. One was an interview with Charles Koch in which he discussed how he founded the libertarian movement and his believe that people at the bottom should be given the freedom to discover who they are and what they are good at instead of being forced to become something they aren’t. When people find what they are good at, they can trade those services with other people who are good at other services and that is how a productive society grows. He refers to that as being a social entrepreneur.

I followed the election and am confident, as many people are, that significant election reform needs to happen so everyone can feel confident that the election was fair and balanced.

I learned about Section 230 in more depth and the changes recommended by the DOJ. It is complicated. I don’t think removing 230 is the answer completely.

I found the boards for the top of my front patio. It seems they are tongue and groove bead boards. I’ve decided to replace them instead of just sand and fix them. They are likely the original boards and new ones would look so much better. They are one of the first things people see when they enter the home so I think it is worth the few hundred dollars.

I was able to observe someone fixing the neighbors roof and how he was able to get on the roof. Very carefully. Once he was up there, he seemed to be o.k.. Going on a roof is definitely not for everyone.

Coronavirus: I spoke to a friend at the casino. She said they have a “15 minute” rule. If someone tests positive for Covid-19, they use the video cameras to trace who that person was next to and if they have been next to that person for 15 minutes or more, the person is notified and told to self-quarantine for 2 weeks.

Exterior Work: I watched a video in which a successful exterior service companies sold me on the idea of using a 12V system to tackle cleaning. And, I need to find a small trailer that I can use to mount a larger water system and a motor, without piling everything into my truck. I’m going to work on that over the next couple of weeks and maybe acquire something by the end of the year.
