I Tried to Join the Military
Most of the men in my family have been in one branch of the military or another. I was told it was good to get out and travel the world and see things that most people don’t get to see. It is also mandatory in some countries and for good reason. I think everyone should join.

But, I went to college after high school and then got jobs in sales and marketing where most of the people I worked with did not have military backgrounds. The time passed by and I thought about it every once in a while but I felt like it would completely change my life.
I’m sure it would’ve. I am a creative person who often has difficulty with focus. I’m sure it would’ve helped me focus or been the opposite and been a nightmare trying to stay focused when I have so much trouble doing that.
When I was thirty-nine, I called the National Guard and asked about joining. I had heard that thirty-nine was the cut-off age. They told me that I was too old and they didn’t want me.
At this point, I don’t know if I’ll be able to serve in any way but maybe if I get an opportunity to serve with a government contractor or a government agency of some kind, that will be just as good. I don’t like the idea of putting my life in jeopardy but I certainly do like the idea of giving my time to help the country and our people.
I think wars are currently being fought online, not so much with guns and tanks. The biggest wars are all around us. I suppose the best way to make things better for family and friends is to use my creativity to help people.
