First Principle Thinking

I am always looking for new ways to think through problems. Some people might call that maturity or wisdom. Instead of crying about something like a young child, think through the problem, reason it out and come up with a solution. If you don’t, you might find yourself crying yourself through life, playing the victim to get what you want. We all know people like that.

So, what is first principles thinking? First principles is the idea that you strip away the previous thought on a problem and take it down the the fundamental truths and build up from there. The counter to it would be analogous thinking which is thinking using the experience or suggestions of others as a basis for decisions.

I really hate when people tell me that I can’t do something, especially when they have no experience doing the thing that they say I can’t do. I like to prove them wrong. In many cases, it isn’t too difficult.

Over the next couple of days, I’m going to try to apply some first principle thinking to various parts of my business and personal life to see what I can come up with. I’ll post a follow-up to this post later this week.

I grew up in Baltimore and currently live in the Rodgers Forge community just north of Baltimore City.
