Speaking Chinese – Update

A few weeks ago, I was speaking to a Chinese client and my brain told me to start mimicking a Chinese accent. A few years ago, I was in an airport in Japan and that same brain told me that speaking louder would somehow help the other person understand me better. Neither worked. But, it does highlight that fact that, at least for me, it is natural to want to speak or act in a way that will help the other person or group understand what you are trying to say.

In psychology, I believe it is called mirroring.

Learning anything is taking what your brain has retained and, when in a situation that requires access to that retained information, the brain is able to recall it. Sometimes the brain retained information and the conscious person isn’t aware of it. I think exposure to information and experiences helps the brain to naturally absorb or retain that information.

I need more exposure.

I continue to get emails from DuoLingo and my daily emails from other services asking me to do what I can.

I grew up in Baltimore and currently live in the Rodgers Forge community just north of Baltimore City.
