Beards Are In!

If you haven’t noticed, more men have beards and longer hair lately. Does it have something to do with barbers being closed or, if they are open, just not wanting to risk it? Yes.

For February through August of last year, I was cutting my hair myself using trimmers. It felt good and I can say that I enjoyed the same length all around. In mid summer, I started to grow some facial hair and was trimming it.

Then, after getting my hair cut around September at a local barber, I haven’t been back or cut it myself. I went from a buzz cut to having hair that is probably longer than it has been since high school.

And, I have a full beard.

I’m not even trimming the beard except a little around the mouth so I am not getting messy. My neck hair all the way around is either covered by my beard or by the hair in the back of my head. Zero maintenance. Since I am wearing a winter hat most of the time, I don’t even have to worry about combing or styling it.

The one downside to the beard is it is not proper to have a beard when wearing a mask. Technically, the beard pushes the mask off of the face and while the mask will still catch a sneeze or cough, and that is great, if the mask isn’t flush against the face it could let the virus particles in.

I’m planning on cutting my beard on or before March 1st. We’ll see how that goes.

I grew up in Baltimore and currently live in the Rodgers Forge community just north of Baltimore City.
